Ellen Pao signals intent to appeal lost Kleiner Perkins gender discrimination case

Former venture capitalist and current head of Reddit, Ellen Pao, sued former firm Kleiner Perkins for alleged gender discrimination in a landmark case earlier this year. A jury found the company not liable on all claims in March, but it appears the ex-venture capitalist isn’t done with the case — Pao has reportedly filed a notice of appeal, indicating her desire to contest the decision in court.

It should be noted that today’s filing is simply the first step in the appeal process, signaling her intent to appeal, as opposed to the actual appeal itself. She now has 40 days to file a brief indicating on what grounds she would appeal the ruling. If she does take the case back to court through the appeal process, Pao stands to lose almost a…

Drag queens lead a new charge against Facebook's authentic name policy

Facebook’s changes to its controversial “authentic names” policy last year haven’t stopped trolls from abusing it in an effort to delete the accounts of drag queens and LGBT activists, protesters said today at the company’s headquarters in Menlo Park. Recode reports that a group of drag queens, burlesque performers, and drag queens known as the #MyNameIs Coalition are asking Facebook to prevent people from maliciously using the tools for reporting fake names. “We were trying to get Facebook to understand that for the past nine months, and no significant changes were made,” drag queen Sister Roma told Recode. “We’ve reached our breaking point.”

Apple's internet TV service won't be unveiled at WWDC

Apple’s much-anticipated internet TV service won’t be getting a grand reveal at next week’s WWDC keynote. According to a report from Re/code (now part of Vox Media), the company has told high ranking TV executives that a launch has been pushed off “until later this year, or in 2016.” Apple is apparently having difficulty hammering out licensing deals with networks and local broadcasters. This has forced the company to adjust its launch timeframe; originally Apple was aiming for a debut in early fall — just as new seasons premiere on major TV stations.

One sticking point in negotiations has been Apple’s desire to include live programming from the biggest broadcast networks in cities “across the US.” ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC don’t directly…

Caitlyn Jenner just broke the record for fastest to reach 1 million Twitter followers

Helping to cement her newfound icon status, Caitlyn Jenner just set a new record for the quickest to reach one million Twitter followers. Politico reports that she pulled it off in just over four hours. President Obama, who set the last record only two weeks ago, reached a million in about five. We’ve reached out to Guinness World Records for confirmation.

Despite some expected backlash from more conservative corners of the internet, Jenner’s debut on social media and on the cover of Vanity Fair was met with applause and support from observers and her children:

Windows 10 will cost $119 if you're not eligible for Microsoft's free upgrade

Microsoft is giving the bulk of its Windows users a free upgrade to Windows 10 so long as they update within the first year. But for people who aren’t eligible for that promotion, the company is maintaining status quo on single license pricing. If you’ve got an outdated version of Windows (anything older than 7) or build your own PCs, Microsoft’s latest release will cost $119. That’s for Windows 10 Home, and the Pro tier will be priced higher at $199. Windows 10 Home is the right choice for almost everyone, but if you need a feature that’s only available in Pro, you can step up later by purchasing a $99 Windows 10 Pro Pack.

These prices are largely identical to those Microsoft chose for Windows 8. So while the free upgrade is a stellar…

Shia LaBeouf gives bonkers rant in front of a green screen, inspires internet gold

Life is hard. Sometimes, it’s even difficult. And when life gets hard, or tough, or completely nuts, it’s nice to have somewhere to turn for a little pep talk. Thankfully, Shia LaBeouf and a group of students at Central Saint Martins art school in London have recently taken it upon themselves to bulk up your feel-good stockpile with something truly ridiculous. The group filmed LaBeouf giving a straight-faced speech that’s part spiritual narrative, part flowery prose, and part meditation. Then there’s a chaotic two-minute rant in the middle of the video when LaBeouf starts yelling like a football coach whose team is losing: “Just do it!” he yells, flexing his muscles into a horseshoe shape. “Don’t let your dreams be dreams.”

The speech…
