Here's how the top iPhone apps are using 3D Touch

When Apple introduced 3D Touch on the iPhone 6S this September, it described the technology as a revolutionary paradigm for interacting with touchscreen devices. And it really seems like 3D Touch — and pressure sensitivity in general — could become that, but it isn’t yet. First, developers have to get on board and add support for it into their apps. This is ultimately what will make or break it: if developers figure out interesting ways to use 3D Touch, then it’ll succeed. If they don’t add anything more than home screen shortcuts, then it won’t have a big impact.

How to be human: am I in love with my friend?

Leah Reich was one of the first internet advice columnists. Her column “Ask Leah” ran on IGN, where she gave advice to gamers for two and a half years. During the day, Leah is Slack’s user researcher, but her views here do not represent her employer. You can write to her at [email protected] and read more How to be Human here.

Hey Leah,

I met this girl nearly three years ago and we became friends. Currently we are best friends and we got a really neat friendship, we enjoy each other’s company, we love each other, all good.

I’ve wondered a few times so far, whether I have any other kind of feelings for her, whether I’m in love with her or something. A couple of times or so, I’ve come to believe I truly am, but it doesn’t really…

Last Chance to Play Uncharted 4's Closed Beta, "No Plans" for Open Beta

If you’re looking to play Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End‘s multiplayer mode before the game officially arrives in March 2016, now is your last chance. The game’s ongoing closed multiplayer beta, which started earlier this month, officially goes offline December 13. An exact end-time for the beta has not been announced.

The closed beta is currently available for people who bought Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection.

It is likely to be the final beta for Uncharted 4. Naughty Dog’s Arne Meye says in the comments of this PlayStation Blog post that the developer has “no plans” for an open beta sometime down the road.

Online multiplayer normally requires a PlayStation Plus membership on PS4. However, that’s not the case for this weekend, as all online play is free for everyone as part of a weekend-only promotion.

Halo 5 Adds New Incentive to Play Every Day

343 Industries has announced a new loyalty program for Halo 5: Guardians that rewards people who play on a daily basis. As part of a recent livestream, 343 announced that, beginning immediately, players can earn up to two free Req packs every day just for playing multiplayer modes Arena and Warzone.

The only catch is that, to earn your free Req pack, you need to win a match in either mode. Req packs weren’t exactly rare in Halo 5, but this program makes it even easier to unlock them.

Halo 5 is not the first game to offer rewards to people just for playing. Konami’s Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain does something similar, though with that game, all you need to do is log in to get your bonus.

Next week, 343 will release a free update for Halo 5 called The Cartographer’s Gift. It’s a big one, introducing things like Forge mode, more Reqs, new multiplayer maps, advanced controller options, and more.

Will free daily Req packs encourage you to play Halo 5 on a daily basis, or at least more than usual? Let us know in the comments below!

Google CEO Sundar Pichai: 'let's not let fear defeat our values'

An escalating tide of intolerant rhetoric has overtaken the media thanks to Donald Trump, but voices at leading businesses are pushing back. In an essay posted to Medium, Google CEO Sundar Pichai responded to recent waves of prejudice against Muslims by reiterating his own hopeful narrative of emigration from India to the US and the idea that his company is strengthened by diversity.

“It’s been said a million times that America is the ‘land of opportunity’ — for millions of immigrants, it’s not an abstract notion, but a concrete description of what we find here,” Pichai wrote. “That is why it’s so disheartening to see the intolerant discourse playing out in the news these days — statements that our country would be a better place…

Heroes of the Storm Dev Discusses New Character, Spectate Mode

Heroes of the Storm director Dustin Browder took to Twitter today to answer fans’ questions about Blizzard’s hero brawler.

Browder fielded questions about esports, fixes for what some players find frustrating, and even new content. The game director mentioned that a new character, Warcraft’s Lunara, might be coming by the end of the year.

But those wanting to watch their friends may be disappointed by some of the news Browder had for fans. He confirmed that there would be no “Spectate Mode” coming to the game any time soon.

Heroes of the Storm recently received a patch that increased the limit of free characters that are playable every week, among other things. It also got a new character that has two heads and is controlled by two different players.

Below is a round-up of everything Browder had for inquisitive players today.
