The past weeks have seen Facebook trying to make its notifications more than a distraction. It’s admitted that it’s working on a fix for endless Candy Crush invites, transformed its notifications tab into Google Now-style “cards,” and released an entire app that does nothing more than push messages from from various publishers. Facebook told The Next Web that it was “piloting a way to highlight…

The UN agrees to create a global flight tracking system after disappearance of MH370

The disappearance of Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370 with 239 people onboard last year spurred a worldwide effort to create a better system to track civilian flights. Vote for This Weekend's Halo 5 Playlist Right Now

Which playlist do you want to see added to Halo 5: Guardians this weekend? You can now cast your vote.

What’s it gonna be?

You have until 11:59 PM PDT tonight (November 11) to vote for either Doubles, Shotty Snipers (the most recent weekend-only playlist) or Capture the Flag. Head to the Halo website here to place your vote. The winner will be announced immediately after the poll closes and we’ll update this post to let you know.

“Each weekend, we’re giving you the option to vote on which new or returning playlists you want to see in matchmaking,” multiplayer designer Quinn DelHoyo said. “Each time a new mode is introduced, it’ll earn the right to be a poll option for two weeks, win or lose. That said, Shotty Snipers is once again a poll option in this week’s poll.”

DelHoyo added that Halo 5 playlists that continually receive the most votes in these weekend playlist polls “have the possibility of becoming a permanent offering in the matchmaking lineup.”

In other Halo 5 news, the game is adding Big Team Battle and four new DLC maps later this month. What’s your favorite Halo 5 multiplayer playlist? Let us know in the comments below.

Hyundai is launching augmented reality owner's manuals for its cars

Tablet-based electronic car owner’s manuals are par for the course these days, but Hyundai’s taking it a step further, announcing this week that it’ll be launching an augmented reality (AR) manual later this year. The app lets you point your tablet at different parts of the car — 45 different parts, to be exact — at which point 2D and 3D overlays on the display will identify what goes where. At launch, the app will include information and overlays for the air filter, engine oil, and brake fluid, along with a host of in-car features like dynamic cruise and Bluetooth phone pairing. A selection of videos and guides will also be available in the app alongside the AR overlays.

As wild as this seems, it’s actually not the first time an…

The Xbox One officially gets backwards compatibility support for Xbox 360 games starting tomorrow, November 12, as part of the long-awaited New Xbox One Experience dashboard update. Now, Microsoft has released a funny video to hype it up, featuring Freaks and Geeks and Silicon Valley actor Martin Starr.

As you’ll see, Starr takes responsibility for implementing backwards compatibility and in fact the entire New Xbox One Experience. “I just made that happen,” he says in the video. “You’re welcome.”

Starr did not actually do any of this, but Microsoft points out that all of his claims are indeed true.

GameSpot will have more on the New Xbox One Experience–which also includes a significant UI overhaul, new features, and more–in the next day. For now, you can check out this list of the 104 Xbox 360 games that will be playable on Xbox One starting tomorrow.

In addition, if you were one of the Preview Program members who helped test the New Xbox One Experience, Microsoft may be sending you a free gift.

Talking to David Cross and Bob Odenkirk about Mr. Show's legacy and working with Netflix over HBO

Before they became better known as Saul Goodman and Tobias Fünke, Bob Odenkirk and David Cross were heroes of the alt comedy movement. Their mid-’90s sketch show, Mr. Show with Bob and David, ran on HBO for four seasons and has since attained cult classic status. With Bob and David, which debuts this week on Netflix, was borne of a desire to celebrate Mr. Show’s 20th anniversary — and it almost ended up back on HBO.

“We actually went with HBO to do it. They just weren’t that interested,” Odenkirk tells me over the phone. (An HBO spokesperson provided us a statement regarding Odenkirk’s story: “The reunion show for Mr. Show did not fit with our needs at the time but we wish Bob and Dave all the best.”) And yet, to hear Odenkirk and…

Halo 5 Players Report Their Multiplayer Progress Has Been Reset

All is not right in the world of Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer, it seems. The game’s forums today were flooded with players reporting that their multiplayer progress (including ranks, commendations, REQs, and other items) had been completely wiped. Others reported not being able to connect to the game’s servers.

Thankfully, developer 343 Industries says it is aware of the issue and is “investigating” the matter. “We apologize for the inconvenience,” 343 said.

The Halo 5 multiplayer status page note that services are “impacted” right now as it pertains to matchmaking, accessing REQ packs, and service record/ranks/commendation.

We’ll have more details on this situation as they become available.

Has your Halo 5 Spartan had its multiplayer stats wiped? I logged in minutes ago and everything was fine with mine. Let us know your own experience in the comments below.
