Tesla unveiled the third generation of its Supercharger charging stations during an event at its Fremont, California headquarters Wednesday evening. The new “V3” Superchargers are capable of charging the company’s cars at a rate of 250kW, which Tesla says is fast enough to add 75 miles of range in 5 minutes. Tesla will break ground on more V3 Superchargers in April, according to the company.
At that point, V3 Supercharging will “roll out to the wider fleet in an over the air firmware update to all owners in Q2 as more V3 Superchargers come online,” Tesla wrote in a blog post. V3 Superchargers will come to the European and Asia-Pacific markets in Q4, Tesla says.
