We’re still a week away from the first look at footage from the upcoming DC adventure Aquaman, which will debut its trailer this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. However, we’re starting to get an idea of what to expect visually from the movie. Following the first pictures that were revealed last month, a new image has been released.
It comes via Entertainment Weekly once more, and reveals the royal palace of the Fisherman King, who rules one of the seven kingdoms of Atlantis. He’s in the center of the picture and is played by Djimon Hounsou. EW explains that this moment comes from a scene in which Aquaman’s villainous brother King Orm (Patrick Wilson) visits the Kingdom to look for help in his war against the surface world. Check it out below:
This image follows last month’s pictures, which gave a first look at characters such as Orm, Vulko (Willem Dafoe), Queen Atlanna (Nicole Kidman), and Black Manta (David Kane). The movie stars Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Amber Heard as Mera, and it’s directed by James Wan.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Wan spoke about the technical challenges of making a film set entirely underwater. “It was a very technically challenging shoot to be on,” he said. “Working with water, and even the dry-for-wet sequences are very complex. Our equivalent of two people sitting around chatting in the underwater world is super complicated.
“You have to think about CG with the hair, and how their clothing moves, how are they floating, what kind of rig we put them on and all that stuff. [It’s] very difficult and time-sucking to do all of this. So it was not an easy shoot–but hopefully it will pay off in spades down the line.”
Aquaman hits theaters on December 21.
